Chinese traders began ordering Australian barley
Chinese traders have ordered at least four batches of Australian barley, which will be shipped in September-October, according to people familiar with the situation. Prior to China's announcement of "double-reverse" measures on Australian barley in May 2020, China was Australia's largest export market. Between 2017 and 2018, China imported Australian barley totaling A$1.5 billion (about 7.06 billion yuan), but after China imposed tariffs on Australian barley, the trade data basically went to zero, according to the Australian Department of Agriculture.
Reuters reported earlier that the Australian government announced on the 9th that CBH Group, Australia's largest bulk grain exporter, has been approved to resume export transportation of barley to China. At the end of 2020, China suspended imports after detecting pests in barley exported to China by a subsidiary of CBH Group. In addition to CBH Group, Australian grain processor Emerald grain has been approved to restart barley exports to China. The Australian Department of Trade and the Department of Agriculture jointly issued a statement saying that the resumption of exports by the above two exporters is the result of continuous discussions between Australia and China, and it is also another positive step for Australia to promote the stability of relations with China.
